Exploring Wyoming's Water

Overview

Carolyn Jacobs, an education advocate for Wyoming Agriculture in the Classroom, is developing a resource designed to help elementary students (5th grade) explore the importance of water through the lens of Wyoming agriculture and natural resources. The lessons will support students' foundational understanding of the importance of water, the hydrologic cycle, and Wyoming's use of water. Through photographs, maps, narratives, and data-based activities, students are encouraged to make connections between water, agriculture, and their everyday lives.

Goals

• Build student understanding of the importance of water in daily life and communities
• Introduce students to Wyoming water systems and the hydrologic cycle
• Develop skills in interpreting maps, narratives, and data sources
• Encourage conversations around responsible water use and stewardship

Implementation & Outcomes

• Students will examine photo scenarios and discuss the role water plays in different aspects of daily life
• Students will explore questions surrounding water conservation and stewardship
• Students will investigate the hydrologic cycle and learn about Wyoming's water supply
• Maps, narratives, and data sources will support student understanding of water systems and water use
• These lessons will become part of the Wyo Wonders curriculum and will be available on the Wyo Wonders website to teachers across the state
