Managing WY Water for a Changing Future

Overview

Jill Woodhouse, a field instructor and former water engineer, developed this cloud seeding mediation lesson to help students explore the complexities of water use and changing weather in the drying American West. This mediation activity invites students to analyze climate data, adopt diverse perspectives, and collaborate on solutions to real-world water challenges, while also building science and social-emotional learning (SEL) skills.

Goals

• Build understanding around competing demands for limited water resources
• Analyze and interpret scientific data in the context of drought and changing water availability
• Strengthen communication and collaboration skills

• Piloted with 6th-8th graders
• Planning to revise lesson based on student & UW researcher feedback
• Shared with TRKE and broader Teton Science Schools Community
